Interested in joining a cause that is particularly meaningful for local children and their families?

Generation to Generation Society, the non-profit that runs Sanctuary Pre-Teen Centre in downtown Trail, is in need of volunteers for its board.

The commitment involves attending a board meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month; participating in a working committee two to four hours per month; supporting Sanctuary staff; and representing the society at community events.

The boards says, “By promoting the services and work of the organization, volunteers contribute to making a difference in children’s lives.”

For more information contact Brenda Hooper, society chair, at 250.512.7721 or email: brendahooper@gmail.com.

Sanctuary is a licensed after-school program for children aged eight to 12 (grades 2 - 7).

All children needing a safe and fun place to go during non-school hours on weekdays are welcome. Sanctuary is community-supported: it is 100 per cent free for children and their families.

The program runs weekdays from 2:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Open since 1998, Sanctuary usually has 50 children registered with 15 to 25 attending each day.

”Our goal is to help children learn positive ways to interact with each other, the staff and the volunteers,” the society explains. “We provide consistent non-judgmental boundaries that focus on respect for self, others, and place.”

Children are encouraged to be creative in their play and interactions through a broad swath of activities.

“Our practice is to encourage and enable children to participate in community life to their full potential,” the board says. “We strive to make Sanctuary Pre-Teen Centre a wholesome, fun, and safe environment.”
