Thursday afternoon (April 18), the RCMP received a call about a suspicious fire that had broken out near a business in the 1200 block of Esplanade Avenue, in downtown Trail.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the flames. As a result of the fire, there was minor damage to the property.

An officer reviewed video surveillance footage which showed a 55-year-old Trail woman allegedly setting the fire. The officer located and arrested the woman for arson.

She was later released on conditions.

Trail RCMP say they will forward a report to Crown counsel for review.

The woman is slated for a first appearance in the Rossland courthouse on June 20.

“Please report all suspicious fires in downtown Trail to fire and police,” advises Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “As the hot, dry conditions approach, we need to remain vigilant to protect the safety of our communities.”
